Soft Molasses Ginger Cookies

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses
3 1/2 to 4 cups sifted flour
2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
cream shortening and sugar together
beat in egg and molasses
sift dry ingredients together and
stir in to wet mixture gradually
chill dough
roll out and cut shapes
place on greased cookie sheet and bake
time: 7 to 10 minutes
temp: 375 degrees
The recipe is from my mom who says it's from her mom and we all clamor for these over the holidays but I have come to make them all year round because we love them! I love them after they are frosted with a buttercream frosting because it softens the cookies a bit but my mom loves them unfrosted so they have a nice snap to them.
