Grandma's Apple Cookies

Grandma's Apple Cookies

This recipe has been handed down from my Great Grandma Venturi. They have always been my favorite and I get requests for them every year.

Cookie Ingredients:
1/2 cup Shortening
1 1/3 cups Brown Sugar
1 Egg
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup chopped Raisins
1/4 cup apple juice or milk
1 cup chopped unpared apples
Glaze:
Mix 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 2 1/2 tablespoons apple juice or cream, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 vanilla.

Cookie Directions:
Cream shortening, egg and sugar. Mix together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Add 1/2 dry ingredients, chopped nuts, apples and raisins. Mix thoroughly. Blend in milk or apple juice. Add remaining flour mixture. Mix well. Drop by teaspoon on greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Glaze while cookies are hot.
