Stone Crock Cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
3 cups sifted flour
1 quarter cup milk
1 cup finely chopped nuts
Directions: Combine shortening, salt, baking soda, vanilla and nutmeg. Add brown sugar gradually and cream well. Add eggs. Add one half of flour, then milk, then rest of flour and nuts. Mix well after each addition. Drop from teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Let stand 3 minutes. Flatten with glass dipped in flour. Bake at 375 degrees 8 to 10 minutes. Enjoy!
This recipe is at least 75 years old. I used to listen to a radio show called "Aunt Jennie" when I was 7 or 8 years old, home from school at noon for lunch. It has always been a favorite of my family, and I hope it becomes one of yours.
